Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM)
- Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) is a new Abu Dhabi financial free zone announced in Feb 2013? Similar but different to the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC).
- Three subsidiary departments:
- Financial Services Regulations Bureau
- Global Market Registration Bureau
- Global Market Courts
- ADGM location is on Al Maryah Island (Al Mariah Island).
- Chairman of ADGM is Ahmed Ali Mohamed Al Sayegh (he is also CEO of Dolphin Energy, and chairman of Masdar). Announced 26 Aug 2013?
- Lead consultant for the ADGM project is ADS Holding. Chairman of ADS Holding is Mahmood Ebraheem Al Mahmood, who was quoted in a news reports 28 Aug 2013 (WAM or The National) as saying:
- "ADGM will start to take a lead in financial markets from 7am to 11am when it will market-make and produce a price across a range of products ... Outside of these hours it will offer a full range of financial services acting as a bridge between the markets in Asia and those in Europe."
- "ADGM will also offer for the first time in the region new financial products. ADGM will be able to host a full range of financial institutions, commodities and producers as well as local and regional service providers."
- The report also said Unlike DIFC, ADGM will also aim to specialise in the handling of physical commodities, which would be shipped in via Abu Dhabi's Zayed and Khalifa sea ports, the airport and Etihad Rail.
