McDonald's Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, RAK, UAE
McDonald's (not MacDonald's) is a well known fast food outlet specialising in hamburgers that make you fat according to Morgan Spurlock (Mr Supersize Me), but not according to Ronald McDonald (a plastic clown). Whatever you think about the cholesterol levels and health food rating of a Big Mac and fries, McDonalds is popular and prevalent in Dubai, UAE, and the Middle East. Walk into the food court of most large shopping centers in the UAE, and the largest queues (and perhaps customers) are invariably at the McDonalds counter loading up with food trays that don't always include a salad. And if you wonder why your chips and drink are always bigger than expected, that's because McDonald's staff ask if you want a "medium" size meal when they mean "upsize" (how many people knew that medium meant "bigger", not "what I asked for"?).

- There are no McDonald's in the emirates of Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) or Fujairah (as of March 2009) but there might be one opening in the new Fujairah Safeer Mall or Umm Al Quwain Safeer Mall when they are completed (see UAE shopping malls for more information).
- Most of the larger shopping malls will have a general children's play area and car parking (usually free).
McDonalds Breakfast in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah
From around April or May 2009, Mc Donald's in the UAE have started serving their delicious (well, we think so anyway) breakfasts in some branches, breakfast time from 0500-1100 (5am to 11am). Shopping center branches of Mc Donalds don't serve breakfast, presumably because most shopping centers in the UAE don't open until 10am. Also, disappointingly, the Dubai Airport McDonalds branches don't serve breakfast either, even though they're open 24 hours. Egg McMuffins with turkey bacon or non-pork sausages, hash browns (a bit on the greasy side), pancakes, scrambled egg meals are all available. McDonalds UAE growth and expansion, and other general information
- McDonald's UAE plans to have 100 stores operating in the UAE by the end of 2011 or early 2012. As of August 2011, there are 90 outlets (Khaleej Times 31 August 2011).
- In the first half of 2011, six new stores were opened, and another eight stores are expected to open by end of 2011.

- McDonald's UAE opened 65th UAE restaurant at the Oasis Center Mall in Dubai.
- So far 6 new restaurants in the UAE in 2009 - Arabian Center Mall (Al Khawaneej, Dubai), Dubai Marina Mall (Dubai), Emirates Co-op (Al Mizhir, Dubai), Kuwaitat (Al Ain), Safeer Mall (Ras Al Khaimah).
- Plans to open 10-12 more outlets in the UAE during 2009
- UAE suppliers include Del Monte and Al Salem Food Industries
- McDonald's UAE started operating in 1994. Does that mean first UAE McDonald's restaurant opened in 1994? Best guess Al Diyafa St or somewhere in Deira.
