UAE visas due to disrupted flights caused by volcanic eruption in Iceland
Visitors and tourists to the UAE who are stranded as a result of cancelled or delayed flights due to the Iceland volcano eruption will be issued 96 hour UAE visas at UAE airports - ask the passport control officer on arrival.
Travellers stranded in Dubai will not be fined for overstaying their Dubai tourist visas or Dubai visit visas. Unknown if the fine cancellations apply in Abu Dhabi and other emirates - check with the UAE visa office in the emirate in which your visa was issued.
- The director of Dubai Naturalization & Residency Administration (DNRD), Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, was reported in Arabian Business 18 April 2010 as saying "According to the situation we won't be charging anyone for the overstay, if their visas are due to expire over the next two or three days," Similar comments were reported in other UAE newspapers.
- Gulf News reported on 19 April 2010 that "Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has instructed concerned authorities to facilitate the visa process for people affected by the crisis."
- Khaleej Times reported on 20 April 2010 that "Passengers who are stranded at UAE airports due to cancellation of flights as a result of the volcanic ash cloud in Iceland are being issued 96 hours visit visas.The decision was taken on the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan."
